Alliston & District Humane Society realizes a dream

Miriam King

The Alliston & District Humane Society will build its long-awaited animal shelter, thanks to a Federal-Provincial infrastructure grant.

On Dec. 19, MP Helena Guergis and then-Minister of Culture, the Hon. Aileen Carroll, announced that the federal and provincial governments will provide 2/3rds funding, totalling $533,334. The Humane Society must raise the final third. Construction on the 3,600 sq. ft. facility will begin this Spring, at a 50 acre property on the 4th Line of Adjala-Tosorontio.

The ADHS is an affiliate of the Ontario Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and serves an area that includes Cookstown, New Tecumseth, Schomberg and Adjala-Tos.
