Portugal Day 0

Miriam King

June 9 was Portugal Day in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, when the Portuguese Community came out to raise the flag of Portugal at the Town Hall, as the Portuguese National Anthem played. There was folk music, dancing, cake, and the release of hundreds of red and green biodegradable balloons.

As one participant told the emcee, "We're very proud to be Portuguese, but very, very proud to be Canadians!"

Mayor Doug White read the proclamation, declaring the week of June 9 to 15 as Portuguese Cultural Week in the municipality.
