On Friday, Team Canada left for Wetzlar, Germany, and the IDO World Dance Championships in Ballet, Modern and Jazz dance. Three dancers from Elite Dance Corps in Bradford are on the team, looking forward to 10 days of travel and competition.

Jessica Simpson, Robynn Michitsch and Victoria Dougherty successfully auditioned to be part of Canada's entry in the World Championship dance competition.

Jessica, who has been studying dance for 11 years, 5 at Elite Dance Corps, will be competing in Ballet and Jazz.

Robynn, who has been at the EDC studio for 4 years but has been dancing for 14 years, will compete in Jazz and Modern dance.

Victoria, an Elite Dance Corp student with 12 years of experience, is entered in Jazz, Ballet and Modern.

This is the first year that Robynn has qualified for the championships, but the other two are seasoned competitors. “Jess and I went last year,” said Victoria. “It was just a cool experience,” even though the style of judging was quite different from what they were used to, in Ontario.

The trio have been rehearsing with their team-mates “every weekend, every Sunday” since early in the summer, and are looking forward to the challenge. If they worry about anything, it would be missing 10 days of high school – although, Victoria said, “My teachers are helping me out a bit. They're giving me work ahead of time,” and friends and family are lending their support, wishing the dancers every success.

Elite Dance Corps is located at 33 Holland St. East; see elitedancecorps.com or call 905-775-1777.
