National Seniors' Day at the Danube Centre
BWG Mayor Rob Keffer read a Proclamation, proclaiming October 1 as National Seniors' Day, and praising Seniors for all that they have done for the municipality.
“They really do contribute a lot to our Town, as far as volunteer committees, just helping out... with family, neighbours,” Mayor Keffer said, noting that June is Seniors' month, and October 1 is the United Nations' International Day of Older Persons. “Seniors are so important, they have a month, and a special day,” he said.
Then he rolled up his sleeves, and helped serve the free Pancake & Sausage Brunch to all who attended the celebration at the Danube Seniors Leisure Centre.
He was joined by South Simcoe Special Constable Elisabeth Aschwanden, Danube Centre president Elaine Love and volunteer Mike Agosta – and by BWG Firefighters, a little delayed by an emergency call.
The Blue Sky Bluegrass Band entertained at the event, which was presented by the BWG Seniors Association and CHATS, Community & Home Assistance to Seniors, which also organized activities and games, after brunch.
