Fitness for Breath fundraiser

By Bradford Times Staff

The Fitness for Breath Program, a partnership between the Lung Association and the BWG Leisure Centre is an exercise program for people with chronic lung disease.

On September 29, the 17 participants in the program and their supporters held a Fitness for Breath Relay, as a fundraiser to “give back” to the Association.

Participants walked around the indoor track at the Leisure Centre, in teams of 4 – handing off a flag as they took turns walking laps, from 11 a.m. to noon.
The goal was to raise about $500; by the time the Relay began, nearly $3000 had been raised.

There are currently eighteen Fitness for Breath programs active in Ontario – but the Bradford West Gwillimbury group is the first to organize a fundraising relay, said  Jody Hamilton, Health Promotion Project Consultant at The Ontario Lung Association – but it's a concept she hopes will spread, combining fundraising and fitness.
