South Simcoe Police Auxiliary Constable Jacqueline Papel, credited with starting up the SSPS Ceremonial Mounted Unit, has taken her love of things equestrian to a new level.

Over the weekend of October 13-15, she was in Philadelphia, PA participating in the 2017 North American Police Equestrian Championships.

Papel took part in the Equitation, Uniform and Obstacle Course competitions, open to all law enforcement agencies with a Mounted unit.

South Simcoe Police introduced its mounted unit this spring, as part of the force's 20th Anniversary celebrations. Aux. Const. Papel trains at Briarwood Farms in King Twp., under coach Jan Humphrey. At the Championships, she competed on a horse owned by the Painesville Police Dept., of Ohio.

Her participation in the games was sponsored by Bradford business, Krueger Designs. “I was really excited to see a Mounted Unit introduced in South Simcoe earlier this year,” said owner Jim Krueger. “These games will provide South Simcoe Police with international exposure, which I am proud to support.”

Aux. Const. Papel returned to South Simcoe with a  2nd place Silver Medal, won on October 14, in Expert Equitation.
