Witnesses wanted for Fail to Remain collision

Bradford – South Simcoe Police are asking for assistance from the public in locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run collision on Collings Ave. around 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 20. A black Chevrolet pickup truck, possibly a Silverado, was northbound on Collings when it struck a parked Ford 150 pick-up, causing substantial damage. The driver of the Chev failed to remain, and was last seen heading from Collings to Miller Park, and then right on Holland St. West.

The Chevrolet will have substantial damage to the front of the vehicle, including missing the front grill, and one headlight. Anyone who observed this vehicle on either Maplegrove Ave. or Collings Ave. in Bradford is asked to contact the investigating officer, Const. Andrew Smith, at 905-775-3311 ext. 1411 or call Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-TIPS, to remain anonymous.

The law requires drivers who have been involved in a collision to remain at the scene, offer as much assistance as possible to other parties involved as well as to police, and be prepared to provide a driver's licence, proof of insurance and any other required information. If there is more than $2000 in damage, the collision must be reported to police immediately.

The penalty for failing to remain on the scene of a collision is 7 demerit points, possible licence suspension for up to 2 years, a fine ranging from $400 to $2000, and/or up to 6 months in jail.
