Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) celebrated members of Simcoe County council this week for their ongoing support of the Barrie hospital.

At the event, Warden Gerry Marshall presented RVH with $1.74 million, the final installment of the county’s 10-year, $20-million commitment to RVH for its expansion.

The funding is part of the county’s $30-million commitment to the Simcoe County Hospital Alliance (SCHA), supporting capital development at area hospitals, including Collingwood General and Marine, Georgian Bay General, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial, Stevenson Memorial, Southlake Regional Health Centre and Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care.

The SCHA was established in 2002 to advise the county of ongoing hospital capital needs. It is comprised of CEOs of all hospitals located in Simcoe County, as well as Southlake, and aims to ensure equitable distribution of county funding to SCHA-member hospitals.

RVH president and CEO Janice Skot says the funding has helped the Barrie hospital double in size while also bringing an advanced cardiac centre and regional child and youth mental-health program to the facility.
