Donald Blais, owner of Chill Out!, was kept hopping on Jan. 30, as customers dropped in to support a fundraiser for the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace's Haiti Earthquake Relief efforts. Blais donated 25% of all sales of soft ice cream, milkshakes, coffee, espressos, cappuccino, lattes, chicken fingers, crepes, wraps, hot dogs and his latest menu item, authentic poutine.
Not only would the funds raised be matched by the Canadian government, through CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency), but matched again by QX Technology – a company that Blais works with, through his own company, BCI Bridgeport Inc.
The fundraiser was made possible through the sponsorship of The Bradford Print Shoppe, which supplied the flyers, and Bradford Jewellery & Gems. Peter Dykie Jr., owner of Bradford Jewellery & Gems, took his support one step further – dropping in with his sons on Saturday to enjoy the poutine.
The one-day event raised $200 for Development and Peace, which will be tripled to $600.
